Peter I's House, the first royal residence on the banks of the Neva, is the only structure to have survived from the early days of St. Petersburg . It was built by military carpenters in three days of May 1703 (24-26). The construction, made up of pine logs, was modeled on the traditional Russian izba (shed).

It'a a heart of St.Petersburg. In that very place (Hare's Island) in May 27 1703 Peter the Great put the 1 st stone of the new city - future capital of Russia . During the excursion the tourist see the fortress ensemble: fortress walls and ravelins, Commandant's house, Engineers' house, the monument to Peter I - and go inside Peter-and-Paul Cathedral where all the Russian emperors were buried.
The world's largest repository of Russian art, the museum was opened to the public in 1898. Today the Russian Museum totals over 320,000 units of storage, illustrating the development of Russian art from the 11th century to the present day. It boasts superb collections of Russian and Soviet paintings, one of Russia's finest collections of sculpture and graphic art, and works of applied, decorative and folk art.

St. Isaac's Cathedral, St. Petersburg 's main cathedral before 1917, is an outstanding monument of Late Neoclassicism , and a museum of history and art. It is one of the world's largest domed buildings. The cathedral is adorned with decorative sculptures. Some 20 varieties of decorative stone, including porphyry, malachite, lapis lazuli and marble, were used, transforming the cathedral into a museum of coloured stone. The total area covered by mosaics is about 600 sq.m.
A magnificent view of the centre of St. Petersburg is to be seen from the upper colonnade of St. Isaac's Cathedral at a height of 43 metres .

The Church of the Resurrection, known as the "Savior on the Blood", was erected on the site where, on 1 March 1881, Emperor Alexander II was mortally wounded by a bomb thrown by Ignaty Grinevitsky, a member of the People's Will organization. The church now constitutes one of the world's finest monuments of Russian mosaic art of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The museum houses remarkable collections of paintings, porcelain, furniture and fabrics. Visitors can explore Rastrelli's Grand Hall, Portrait Hall with its canvases by Dutch, Flemish, Italian and French artists and other rooms of so-called "Golden Corridor". They admire the new-made world-famous Amber Room , which disappeared during the Second World War.
The Great Palace in Pavlovsk, a splendid specimen of Russian Neoclassicism, is remarkable for its proportionalism and refined decor. Together with the low galleries, leading to the wings), the palace looks out onto a large open courtyard.

At present the museum occupies five buildings. There is also an exhibition at the Menshikov Palace , a branch of the Hermitage.

Dostoevsky walking tour + Dostoevsky museum 3 50 30 25 20 15

During the excursion tourists get acquaintance with the city district where a great Russian writer Fedor Dostoevsky lived and worked and where practically all his heroes inhabited. They walk a part of Raskolnikov's way, see Raskolnikov's house and visit the memorial flat of Dostoevsky. The museum to Fedor Dostoyevsky (1821-1881) opened in 1971 in the house where the writer rented his last apartment. It was here that he worked on his Diary, his famous Speech on Pushkin and completed his last novel The Brothers Karamazov.
